The village pub is one of the oldest buildings around and was once a church house; it offered help, stabling, food and drink, courtesy of the church. by the 1750s, it was being run as a public house with the church pocketing the rent. It has had a number of owners over the years - the whole village estate was sold in 1915 for example - but remained at the heart of Abbot's Leigh. In recent years, the popular pub changed its offerings and facilities - much to the disappointment of the locals - and it suffered a period of closure. Only in very recent months has the pub welcomed new management and the hope is that it will return to the fabric of village life and not be an out-of-town restaurant.
