2011 : South on Highfield Lane
Having just passed Highfield Farm. A pleasant walk on a quiet road along the top of the escarpment, an alternative to the Cotswold Way which is nearer the bottom.

2011 : Field of maize east of Highfield Lane
About ready for harvesting. Believe it is mostly used as cattle feed in this country. Wonder if they have it au gratin with butter. The view beyond is in the direction of Tormarton.

Horton Camp
A view along the bank shown in Image According to http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=MSG2495&resourceID=1007 , the height of the bank is 16 feet in places. The view commanded by the site can be glimpsed in the distance.

Widden Hill House
Described at http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=34689&resourceID=5 as a "small country villa ... formerly a rectory", and dating from about 1815, this house is magnificently set on the crest of the Cotswold scarp above Horton Hill. Seen from the Cotswold Way which now climbs the scarp to its north.

Millennium Folly, Horton Hill (2)

Millennium Folly, Horton Hill
The tower was built in 2000 on the Cotswold scarp, just below the Iron Age hillfort of Horton Camp, "as a millennium project to provide nesting places for swallows and barn owls" (notice attached to the building). The re-aligned Cotswold Way runs past.
