Floating Harbour, Bristol, 1966
Where the cranes are is now a car park with trees. Behind are buildings on The Grove. The brick building to the left is listed as Severn Shed, and known as Hide Shed: "The last surviving part of a scheme of quayside transit shed accommodation which extended along Redcliff Wharf and Broad Quay"; it now houses the Mud Dock - see Image and Image

Waiting for a call
The old Bathurst Wharf used to have all manner of dockside cranes and warehousing until well after the war. However, the closure of the old city docks provided some new opportunities for housing. Some old bits of furniture stands beside the modern development.

Bristol - BS1
The Anglican church of St Mary Redcliffe looms large in this shot of part of Bristol harbour taken from the Prince’s Street swing bridge. Elizabeth I is said to have described it as "the fairest, goodliest, and most famous parish church in England." Because of its magnificent gothic architecture it is Grade 1 listed. The 292ft (89m) spire is the third tallest of England's parish churches, after the Catholic Church of St Walburge, Preston and the Anglican Church of St James, Louth. It is the tallest building in Bristol.
