Tanners Brook
Is the name of the cul-de-sac on the left hand side of the picture. It was built on the site of the old cattle market in the 1990s. The green buildings to the right are also from the former cattle market and are now used as auction rooms. In the foreground are platforms 1 and 2 of Lewes station on the line that links Lewes with the main London-Brighton line between Burgess Hill and Wivelsfield.

These are platforms 1 and 2 on the line to and from London via Haywards Heath. A Southern Railway's eastbound train from London is just easing into the station from under the Southover Road bridge, with Unit Number 377443 leading.

Lewes railway station (1)
This is the frontage of the classic Grade II listed Lewes railway station, built in 1889 by the London Brighton & South Coast Railway. The façade is marred by the unsympathetic extension on the right and whenever I look at the photograph I get the feeling that six creatures of a Teletubby variant are looking down on me...

Station Road, Lewes
The town of Lewes basks in bright winter sunshine. The main station building, on the right of the photo, stands between the converging lines from Wivelsfield to the north and Brighton to the southwest. The South Mimms Travel minicoach on the left has brought the visiting Wingate & Finchley football team to the town for their match against Lewes FC, 'The Rooks'. Their stadium is behind me on my right.
