Star House
Marked on a 1975 OS map as Devonshire Villa and fronted onto the A23 until the early 1990s when this part was straightened. Be interested to know what the barn was once used for, the boarding at the front seeming to suggest some previous use. The bridleway to Wolston bury Hill and Pyecombe runs along the course of the old A23 and turns up the drive to the left which also leads to Star Cottage.

The Links (1)
The name of this field according to the 1840 tithe map which has since been detached from the rest of a much larger field following a realignment of the A23 in the early 1990s. The new course is beyond the hedge to the right whilst the line of trees on the left marks with a small embankment beyond is the old course part of which is now used as a drive for Star House. The field still has a layer of frost being in the shadow of Wolstonbury Hill to the east, the peak straight ahead is Round Hill.

Old Marlpit
The name given to this area by the 1840 tithe map. A former chalk pit that would have been excavated for the production of marl used to fertilise agricultural land. The walls of the old quarry can still be made out though a small wood is now growing within it.

A23 (T)
The main London-Brighton road through Sussex. The section in view is the new straightened route opened in the early 1990s, the old route ran to the right then crossed over the new road at London Road Cottages and travelled in a north west direction towards the Muddleswood Crossroads, Albourne and Sayers Common. The path on the left is the N20 cycle route.

Dead End
The sign on the tree indicates that the bridleway (path number 5N) is dead end with only private access. The bridleway runs past private properties to come to an end beside the A23. However, there is a Bridleway Sign beside the carriageway of the A23 so in theory is isn’t a total dead end.
