The Lag
The name of the field according to the 1842 tithe map. A little ground mist can be seen in the distance but had gone by the time I had walked to that end of the field. Taken from a permissive footpath that runs along the western side of the field parallel to the B2116.

The name of the field according to the 1842 tithe map. Viewed from the northern end of the field where a public footpath meets a permissive footpath that runs alongside the hedge to the right in order to save those on two feet the ordeal of negotiating the verge-less B2116 which lies beyond.

The name of the field according to the 1842 tithe map. Viewed from Lewes Road, the B2116, the field was originally an L shape with the southern and western section behind Westmeston Place. Now subdivided into a number of smaller fields.

Footpath above Lewes Road
The B2116 heads into the village of Westmeston via a very pronounced holloway living those travelling by foot to climb the bank and walk in above the road. The path heading right goes to Ditchling.
