Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

Swiftly responding to incidents of ASB and effectively using policing powers available to intervene - including powers of dispersal where the actions of individuals or groups impact their wider surroundings; which can lead to wider harm, including the misuse of public spaces or buildings, criminal damage or vandalism, for example graffiti or damage to public buildings.

Working with partners and youth organisations, including schools and colleges to identify opportunities for early intervention with individuals at risk of causing ASB.

Addressing and taking action against ASB in the form of nuisance noise, such as noisy cars or motorbikes.

Officers continue to receive reports of ASB particularly around the use of off road bikes, and the noise/nuisance associated with such vehicles.

In response officers for your wards have committed to a number of additional patrols in the last few months, targeted at identifying those involved as well as acting as a deterrent those causing a nuisance in the area.

Earlier in the summer officers seized two off road bikes associated with ASB driving, and hope that the removal of these bikes has offered some respite to residents over the summer months.

Operation Downsway

Our yearly campaign to address community concerns around road and driving related offences that fall into the fatal 5 driving offences.

Including targeted patrols, education and enforcement activities across the district throughout the Summer months, focused on targeting excess speed, distracted driving, as well as drink/drug driving.

Continued work with partners, local authorities, including volunteer Community Speed Watch Groups to support activities and keep the roads of your towns and villages safe for all road users.

During the summer months a number of speed checks have been deployed across rural villages, with officers continuing to work alongside Community SpeedWatch (CSW) groups in the villages to support the work of volunteer groups.

With officers assisting and deploying their own speed detection devices, any speeds recorded over the tolerance level have been passed to our Sussex Police Safer Roads Unit for either educational or enforcement notifications or in person visits by local officers to registered keeper addresses.

Rural Crime

Supporting rural communities affected by rural crime, including but not limited to; residential burglary, machinery theft, animal or livestock worrying, illegal poaching and criminal damage.

Policing our more rural areas to prevent and disrupt rural crime, and to identify those who use our more isolated areas of the district to conduct criminal activities, from fly tipping, damage to property and livestock worrying, to agricultural and equine theft.

•Officers continue to commit to rural patrols of our villages across the Lewes district, with a number of additional hours spent across the area, teams also continue to hold regular meetings for residents in which they can report and obtain first-hand updates on reported crimes.

•Funded by the PCC for Sussex, a number of Selecta DNA marking kits have also been distributed across rural farms, and communities to help offer further protection to farming equipment, machinery and tools as part of our continued commitment to helping safeguard our more rural locations from crime.
