Pyecombe and the junction between the A23 and A273
This is a cross-grid telephoto shot. The Brendon Stud and Pyecombe Equestrian Centre are to the right of centre, about 1.1 km from the camera, which was in TQ2712. A little beyond that the A23 and A273 form a V-shape in the middle distance. The village of Pyecombe lies between the two roads.

Disused Garage
Originally built in the V of the A23/A273 junction which in itself caused traffic problems in the latter days of it being a straight junction of single carriageway roads. The reconfiguring of the junction in the early 1990s cut the garage off from the main routeways and it closed down in 2002. Middle Brow forms the backdrop beyond the derelict buildings.

Pyecombe Village Sign
Viewed from Old London Road with the roof of the Plough behind the foliage. The sign includes one of the most famous things to come out of the village, the shepherds crook known as the Pyecombe Hook made locally at the former forge located near the church. I certainly recall the older village sign featured just the crook though this modern one has added sheep as a reminder for centuries of shepherding that went on on the downland surrounding the village.

New BP Connect
Last August the site looked like this, Image, but in the intervening period a new road layout and petrol filling station has been built with a small Marks & Spencer to keep the local villagers happy. Middle Brow is beyond.

The Plough Inn
An old coaching inn established in the late 1770s to cater for the newly turnpiked London-Brighton route that passed through the middle of the village then onto Clayton, Burgess Hill and Cuckfield. In the early 19th century another turnpike was constructed from here to Sayers Common which the inn also benefited from. This later became the main A23 trunk road. The inn remained near the junction of the A23 and A273 until the early 1990s when it was remade as part of a programme of turning any remaining stretches of single into dual carriageways. The A23 and A273 now bypass the village. However, the inn retains its popularity particularly its Italian restaurant.
