Recently completed block of apartments adjacent to Girton House that replaces an older Victorian building, see Image, that was demolished around 2012, and was originally known as Walsingham Mansions. The plot to the right has now been vacant for a decade since the former Sackville Hotel was demolished after its roof collapsed during restoration in 2006.

Currently a vacant plot awaiting development. The plot was first developed in 1904 when a four terraced block called The Lawns was constructed but when these proved too expensive to sell they were converted into the Sackville Court Hotel in 1926. The hotel was popular for many years though decline set in during the 1980s and ownership changed hands a number of times during which the building began to deteriorate. By the turn of the century the council were using it as accommodation for the homeless. However, a new set of owners took on the building in the hope of restoring it and reopening as a new Five Star hotel. Unfortunately, whilst the building was undergoing renovation the roof collapsed taking out two floors in the process. Further high winds made the remaining structure unsafe and the decision was taken to demolish the building in 2006. Since then a decade of failed planning applications has followed and the site remains a vacant plot. Girton House, Kingsway
Viewed from the Western Lawns. The vacant plot to the right is the site of the former Sackville Hotel built in 1904 and a favourite haunt of celebrities during the 50s and 60s. The hotel lost its lustre during the 70s and 80s and was reduced from 5 stars to 3 even becoming temporary council accommodation during the 90s. New owners planned to return the hotel to its former glory and undertook a massive rebuild but unfortunately the roof collapsed in April 2006 and destabilised the building enough for the residents of Girton House to be evacuated. The structure was pulled down not long after.
