Maroccos, King's Esplanade, Hove
The building dates from the 1930s and was originally owned by Fortes. It was purchased by an Italian couple in 1969 and renamed Maroccos. For many years it was general cafe whose speciality was home made ice cream until 1998 when it became an Italian restaurant. The Italian theme was dropped in 2010, however, their continued mainstay was the home made ice cream now served at the front of the premises and hugely popular with the locals. Even on a mild February day there is a large queue waiting for ice cream.

Victoria Cottages
Linking Kingsway (A259) and King's Esplanade. This part of Brighton & Hove is the only section that has housing between the main coastal road and the beach. Victoria Cottages date from the late 1830s. The salmon pink building to the left is the rear of Maroccos purveyors of the best homemade Italian ice cream in the city.

Medina House, King's Esplanade, Hove
Built in 1894 as a Turkish bath for ladies that later became slipper baths until the Second World War. From the 1940s to the 1990s it was used as a workshop for diamond cutters who attempted to purchase the building from Hove council but were turned down. After Hove and Brighton's authorities were unified the building was sold in 1999 to developer Sirus Taghan. Already empty for five years the building was occupied by squatters who were allowed to remain with the consent of the owner in return for a peppercorn rent. This agreement ended in 2006 when they were evicted and the first of about twenty planning applications went in to develop the site. Many of the plans involved the demolition of the property and all were rejected by the council by then under pressure by local residents to save the building. More squatters and two mysterious arson attacks still failed to remove the building but the council refused to budge and eventually Taghan gave up and sold the building to author Polly Samson, wife of former Pink Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour, who both reside around the corner in nearby Medina Terrace. They had enquired about turning the building into a spa around 2013 but were turned down at the time by Taghan. As yet there is no news what the building will eventually become but it appears it will not be demolished.

Sussex Road, Hove
A residential street linking Kingsway, the A259, to King's esplanade on the seafront. Built in the 1850s and originally lined both sides with cottages, however, numbers 5-11 were demolished in 1893 to make way for Hove Baths and Laundry which itself was demolished in the 1970s and replaced by the current block of flats, Bath Court.
