50-59, Western Road, Hove
Originally a department store, Hills of Hove, which was founded by William Hill at number 58 in 1839 and gradually extended eastwards over the rest of the 19th century. The individual shopfronts were merged and extensively rebuilt in 1921 and the premises continued as a department store until its closure in 1982. Since then the ground floor has been subdivided into individual units including Starbucks and Sainsbury's whilst the upper floors have been converted into flats. See http://www.photosbrightonandhove.org.uk/hills-of-hove-shortly-before-closure.html for an image taken in 1982 before closure.

Brunswick Street West
The big Brunswick Square development was flanked by two service roads, Brunswick Street East and West. The street still retains a number of small workshops and businesses though many have now been converted into cottages. The original Brunswick Town Hall and Police Station were also in this street being further up next to the cars parked on the left. One is now a snooker hall the other a pub called the Bow Street Runner.

Brunswick Street West
Built as part of the Brunswick Estate in the 1820s primarily as a service road behind the square and terrace of whom the rear of the latter can be seen at the end of the street. Still filled with small workshops today though to the right is the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, an independent college set up in 2001 for those wishing to enter the music business. This part of the campus was opened in 2009 to add to a smaller building in the northern part of the street.
