Former Municipal Market, Circus Street
The building was opened in 1937 on the site of a former slum clearance to replace an older building next to the town hall. It was joined by the fish market in 1960 after that was moved from Kings Road Arches. The building closed in 2005 and the whole site is now currently awaiting redevelopment. The building at the end of the street is the University of Brighton's art department.

Municipal Market, Circus Street
Head south down Grand Parade then east up Morley Street until the junction with Circus Street. At the foot of the former Hilly Laine area is Circus Street once a notorious slum area that was cleared in the 1930s with the town's market moved to this purpose-built building in 1937 from its previous home outside the town hall. The fishmarket joined it from the beach in 1960. Unfortunately, the building has been gradually run down and is now scheduled for redevelopment.

Graffiti on Old Municipal Market
This market was built in 1937 following a clearance of the slum housing in this area. Although it was hit by a bomb in 1943, the market survived. A fish market was added to the building in 1960 http://www.mybrightonandhove.org.uk/page_id__7804_path__0p115p196p1431p.aspx
The Market was last in use in January 2005 since when it has become derelict

Graffiti as Advertising
The garage door on the left advertises last spring's Brighton Festival, that on the right Channel 4's Street Summer series of programmes. The two belong to the former municipal market in Circus Street which closed in 2005 and is currently awaiting development. The taller building on the right is part of the University of Brighton and I think is student accommodation.

Circus Street Annex, University of Brighton, Brighton
The building in view was originally the Circus Street School built in 1883 to replace an older one that stood to its immediate south east. The school closed in 1926 and was acquired by the College of Art and Crafts who would merge with Brighton Technical College in 1970 to become Brighton Polytechnic which gained university status in 1992. Currently an annex to its Grand parade campus the building is scheduled for demolition along with neighbouring

Former Market, Circus Street, Brighton
Circus Street was originally laid out around 1806 and named after a nearby short lived riding school. It soon developed into a slum and was cleared by the council in the 1930s and replaced by a new market building which opened in 1937 primarily for fruit and veg traders. In 1960 it was joined by the fish market who had been moved from the beach. The building remained in use until it closed in 2005 since when there have been a number of schemes proposed but nothing started. However, in 2014 the go ahead was given for a scheme called the 'Innovation Quarter' [sigh!] that will include buildings for the University of Brighton as well as housing for non-students and will include the demolition of all current builtings in Circus Street between Morley Street and Kingswood Street. Work will begin by the end of the year.

Brewdog, Grand Parade, Brighton
A view of the southern side of the pub building in Kingswood Street. Brewdog opened here in the summer of 2015 after the previous occupants closed after complaints of noise. Originally the Norfolk Arms I've lost count of the number of name changes over the years which have included Hector's House and The Blind Tiger Club. On the other side of the road, out of shot to the left, is the art department of the University of Brighton, hence the sign.
