The building in view was originally the Circus Street School built in 1883 to replace an older one that stood to its immediate south east. The school closed in 1926 and was acquired by the College of Art and Crafts who would merge with Brighton Technical College in 1970 to become Brighton Polytechnic which gained university status in 1992. Currently an annex to its Grand parade campus the building is scheduled for demolition along with neighbouring Image
