Site of Hamlins Mill
This small works off Mill Road lies on the site of the last surviving windmill in Hailsham. The smock mill was constructed in 1834 and continued in operation until destroyed by a fire in 1923. The shell was reused as a power mill which remained working until another fire destroyed that in 1967. Nothing now remains of the mill though some of the former ancillary buildings are still in use.

Upper Stumbles
The name of the field according to the 1844 tithe map. The buildings on the extreme right mark the site of Hamlin's windmill a smock mill that was built in 1834 and burnt down in a fire in 1923. The shell was then fitted out as a power mill but that too burnt down in another fire in 1967 and only the ancillary buildings now remain.

Hamlins Villa
Victorian house on Mill Road next to the site of the old windmill from which it got its name. Viewed from the track to Little Marshfoot Farm which is also a public footpath.

Magpie on the Track
A very battered magpie stands on the farm track to Little Marshfoot Farm. Looks like it had been in a fight with something as it has lost an eye. I did think it was dead but close up it was still breathing and after I left it to walk down the track it hopped around a little. Unfortunately, what life it has left will be ended by either a local cat or a fox looking for food. The close up view does highlight the iridescent green found on their tails (Others will have shades of purple or blue).

Lower Gate Field
The name of the field according to the 1844 tithe map. Being on the outskirts of Hailsham and backed onto by housing estates the field has been taken out of agricultural use and lost to scrub though a horse was wandering about here. Judging by the discarded rubbish and cycle tracks in the mud I'd imagine the local youth use it quite regularly.

Residential road linking Mill Road with Marshfoot Lane. The estate which it serves was built in the 1960s and 70s.
