The Hub, Lewes Road
On the Vogue Gyratory one way system at the point where Lewes Road meets Bear Road and Hollingdean Road. Formerly known as the Allen Arms and Counting House the pub was next door to the cinema from which the road system takes its name, opening as the Gaeity in 1937 before becoming the Ace in 1965, the Vogue in 1971 and the Classic in 1979. It closed in 1980 and was demolished in 1983 with much of its former auditorium replaced by the petrol station's building and the one way system. Much of the rest of the filling station occupies the site of the former Lewes Road viaduct which carried the Kemp Town branch over the road from 1869-1971, the part crossing Lewes Road was demolished in 1975 and the rest went in 1983 when Sainsbury's (Behind the buildings in view) and the one way system was built. The name came from the cinema's pornographic era.

Bear Road
Looking down towards the junction with Lewes Road and Hollingdean Road. The road is named after the Bear Inn on the corner which itself was named after a venue which held bear baiting contests. The former Gaiety Cinema stood on the road opposite the funeral parlour until it was demolished in 1983 for the Vogue Gyratory named after the eight year period the cinema became a pornographic filmhouse with added strip shows.

Vogue Gyratory, Brighton
A one way system opened in 1984 joining up the junctions of Upper Lewes Road, Hollingdean Roand Bear Road with Lewes Road creating possibly the worst road junction in Brighton as a result. Adding to the traffic is a filling station, see Image, in the island and the car park of Sainsbury's. Often congested and occasionally gridlocked it isn't a pleasant junction to negotiate. There was talk of demolishing all buildings in the middle and reconstituting the junction but when work did occur all that has happened is clearer cycle lanes have been added, which given the route to the universities was probably needed as the old junction was dangerous for cyclists. Viewed from the car park at Sainsbury's and looking towards the Bear Inn. The fencing on the right marks the site of the Allen Arms an old pub that spent its last years changing its name with increasing regularity before finally being demolished to be replaced by student flats.

Hollingdean Road
Looking down towards its junction with the Vogue Gyratory. May Cottages are to the right and until 1984 would have continued down to the junction with Lewes Road. The former Gaiety Cinema was on the corner next to the blue building in the distance which is now The Hub public house. The cinema became the Ace in 1965, the Vogue in 1971 and the Classic in 1979 before closing in 1980 and being demolished three years later. When it was the Vogue the films were largely pornographic and were supplemented by strip shows.

BP Connect, Vogue Gyratory
The garage occupies the site of the former Lewes Road viaduct which carried the Kemp Town branch over Lewes Road between 1869-1971. The eastern portion was demolished in 1975 and the western portion where the garage is now was removed in 1983 as the site along with a nearby pill factory was redeveloped as a supermarket and a one way road system. The Vogue Gyratory was named after a former pornographic cinema which was also removed during this redevelopment, it had been known as Gaiety, Ace and Classic none of which went well with gyratory and neither did the name of the former pill factory, Cox. Taken from Gladstone Place with the entrance to Sainsbury's car park which is on the far side of the garage.
