Looking down Wakefield Road to the sea
A bright September day, the sea just visible as a pale blue strip behind the tower of St Peter's Church, from this chalk ridge above central Brighton. Note the cars parked completely on the pavement - lack of parking a major issue here, even with under half of households having a car.

Obstruction!
Brighton's Victorian streets are very crowded. The need for the pavement bollards at the entrance to Round Hill Crescent (rear of picture) is amply demonstrated by this Ford driver's need to think about other car drivers, and no one else.

The Cats' Creep, Round Hill, Brighton
The steps between Richmond Road and Roundhill Crescent have been known by this name since at least 1917. It was originally laid out as a street, called Lennox Road on the 1875 OS map, but was found to be too steep for a horse and cart to negotiate and was not developed. It had been reduced to a footpath by the early 20th century containing 166 steps and access to open tracts of land on the eastern slope of Round Hill.
