Bull Pitts
The name of the field according to Sompting's 1840 tithe map that is located to the north of the current A27 Upper Brighton Road that was a country lane known as Bullpit Lane. The northern end of Sompting is beyond with Steep Down visible in the distance.

The name of the fields according to Sompting's 1840 tithe map that have been merged to form a larger unit. They are bounded by Dankton Lane to the west and the northern part of Sompting to the east.

The Joyful Whippet, Steepdown Road, Sompting
Built in the 1960s at the junction of Steepdown Road and Halewick Lane on the site of what was once a chalk quarry. There are currently plans to demolish the pub and replace with housing.
