The famous locomotive has been out of action for a decade, but after a £4.2 million restoration project - Flying Scotsman is now back in action on the East Lancashire Railway, and will undergo larger journeys - such as London Kings Cross to York on the 10th February 2016.

The first class 40 locomotive entered service in 1958 (and so the class is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year) and a total of 200 were built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry between 1958 and 1962. This one, 40012, first entered service in May 1959, carrying the number D212; it was renumbered 40012 under the TOPS system in January 1974. This locomotive was withdrawn from in April 1986 after almost 27 years of mainline operational service.
