Hugh Lupus Street
The houses are in Bank Top, a model village built circa 1835 by cotton mill owners the Ashworth family., to house their workers. It is likely that the street is named after Hugh Lupus Grosvenor, 1st. Duke of Westminster, with whom the Ashworths had some business dealings. The houses are Grade 2 listed.

Eleanor Street, Bank Top
Bank Top model village was built circa 1830/1840 at the top of the bank of Eagley Brook by the Ashworth family, cotton mill owners, to house their workers. The Ashworths had some business dealings with the Grosvenor family, and it is likely that this street was named after Eleanor Percy (nee Grosvenor), Duchess of Northumberland. The other main street in Bank Top is Hugh Lupus Street which was probably named after Hugh Lupus Grosvenor, 1st. Duke of Westminster, the brother of the aforementioned Eleanor. These houses are Grade 2 listed.
