Winton: phone box in Withermoor Road
This telephone box, outside Image, has its door covered by a Government health message, aimed at parents, warning that underage drinking is twice as likely to result in unprotected sex. At night, the previous advert for Greggs, the bakers, is still clearly visible, somewhat unfortunately.

Winton: former Stanfield Road Post Office
Stanfield Road Post Office occupied this small frontage to the right of the off licence, from 1930 when it replaced a branch in nearby Heathwood Road, till its closure in March 2004. Although its address is 58a Stanfield Road, its door faces Withermoor Road - Stanfield is the other road at this junction. It was one of the smallest suburban sub-post offices anywhere and its actual date of closure was a few weeks later than the other Bournemouth ones, because at the time the main Winton office was closed for a short period mid-move (see Image).

Winton: five roads? meeting place
Here we see the end of Frederica Road, exiting onto Withermoor Road (to the sharp right) as it changes into Bengal Road (far left). Edgehill Road can be seen far right, while a sharp left turn will take us into Heathwood Road. The exact point at which Withermoor Road changes to Bengal Road might be disputed by some; it would seem more logical if it were a few yards to the north, where there is a pronounced bend at the junction with Fernside Road. Furthermore, there are no properties between the two junctions to have their house-numbering affected by this assumption.

Bournemouth Blue Plaques: No. 29 - Flora Thompson
Most well known for her much later masterpiece "Lark Rise to Candleford", the author Flora Thompson moved with her family to Edgehill Road, Winton in 1909 where she learned her craft with the help of the newly opened Winton Public Library. It was here at 2, Edgehill Road (named Grayshott Cottage) during the family's comparatively brief occupation, that many of Flora's articles were written, literally on the kitchen table. Image Image
