Bournemouth: demolition of Fircroft Hotel on St John's Road, Boscombe
The hotel closed in 2005 and the site became derelict. In due course it became a resort of serious drug abusers, and I myself, living opposite, witnessed a raid with a small file of police in full riot gear. It was demolished in 2008 and the site now is occupied by a development of 63 flats.

Boscombe Art Trail, bench
The third of seven installations on Sea Road, designed to assist Boscombe's regeneration, and lure people from the beach to the delights of the precinct; designed by Dorset artist Andy Kirkby. This one is at first sight a typical Victorian bench, with cast-iron ends; look closely, and you will see it has been subverted by a multi-coloured resin globe. For a close-up, see
