Boscombe Art Trail, Feather
The fourth of seven installations on Sea Road, designed to assist Boscombe's regeneration, and lure people from the beach to the delights of the precinct; designed by Dorset artist Andy Kirkby. This one commemorates Mary and Percy Shelley, who had local connections Image Four are completed, and a further three are expected. Bournemouth: demolition of Fircroft Hotel on St John's Road, Boscombe
The hotel closed in 2005 and the site became derelict. In due course it became a resort of serious drug abusers, and I myself, living opposite, witnessed a raid with a small file of police in full riot gear. It was demolished in 2008 and the site now is occupied by a development of 63 flats.

San Remo Towers, Boscombe
No social housing, this! Built 1935-8 as a high-class self-contained village. Despite its Italian name, touches seem Spanish: pantile roofs, round arched windows and glazed tile decoration. Viewed from Percy Road.
