Bournemouth: Town Hall
Looking across the Central Gardens. The Town Hall was built in the late 19th century as the Hotel Mont Dore. It was then used as a military hospital during the First World War and was converted for use as the Town Hall in 1921-22. The Hotel Mont Dore was one of the first properties to possess a telephone. The telephone number was 3.

The ornate pillars and stained glass of one of the main staircases of the original Town Hall building. Now that the Register Office is housed within the Town Hall, this is a common backdrop for wedding photographs.

Bournemouth: Pulchritudo et Salubritas
The town's coat of arms on display in stained glass on one of the Town Hall staircases. The motto is Latin for 'Health and Beauty', a message that is not so appreciable with the view through the glass to the rear goods yard.

Bournemouth: Chinese lanterns hang from the Town Hall
During the town's bicentennial year, the Image has been adorned with Chinese lanterns during this half-term week, whose first weekend coincided with the Chinese new year. There are others all down the Lower Gardens.

Bournemouth: curvature of the Town Hall fa?ade
We look along the side of the Image as the façade curves around to face the Central Gardens – the main entrance is around there, on the floor above what appears to be the ground floor here. Marking the Chinese new year, orange lanterns have been attached to the balustrade.

Bournemouth: a 20-foot me at the Town Hall
A ground-level floodlight at the Town Hall coincides with a path passing right in front of it, giving a very large shadow to anyone who walks past, cast on the curved front wall. The floodlight also illuminates the adjacent tree rather splendidly: see Image
