Northbourne: driveway to garages in Gillam Road
A fairly common arrangement in these sort of council housing areas, a single driveway leading to several neighbours' garages around the back of their gardens.

Northbourne: GMT dusk
Looking out across Northbourne at 5:11 on the first evening after the clocks have gone back. The band of orange sky is cruelly ironic since there has been no hint of sunshine today.

Northbourne: the October heat-wave comes to an end
After the first three days of October have seen temperatures well into the 20s and there hasn't been a cloud in the sky, these unusual conditions have come to an abrupt end in the last hour or so.
It was still hot and sunny at 5 o'clock but an hour later the wind has got up, the sun has gone in and the temperature suddenly feels more normal for the time of year.

Northbourne: U-turn at sunset
Looking across the junction of Gillam Road and Leybourne Avenue at dusk, as an aeroplane has made a U-turn and heads back northward.
A few details have emerged from an internet search this evening, that it was a Bombardier BD-700 Global Express, modified and known as Sentinel, based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire. Its southwestward course having begun above approximately Cirencester, and the loop above Bridgwater-Taunton-Dunster-Barry Island. The plane was at an altitude of 43,025 feet. https://www.dropbox.com/s/rl4zpbov9k6jhmp/glex.PNG

Northbourne: morning after snowfall
Two weeks after Bournemouth's heaviest snowfall for 17 years, and before much of it had had chance to thaw, a sort of encore was performed last night and we woke up to another white scene.

Northbourne: Storm Emma brings a blanket of snow
A storm arriving from Portugal, named Storm Emma by the Portuguese meteorologists, arrived as predicted over southern England on 1 March and brought with it Bournemouth's first significant snowfall for three years.
We look across the junction of Leybourne Avenue (left-right) and Gillam Road (foreground) at 5:30pm - just dark enough for the lights to start coming on - after it has been snowing properly for a couple of hours; a light dusting preceded it midmorning.

Northbourne: Fibrecity reaches Gillam Road
The Fibrecity company are coming around all the streets in Bournemouth, laying the cables for what will be in the future ultra-fast broadband service. They cause nuisance on the roads but only in any one place for a very short time.
Here we see their orange barriers cordoning the pavement of Gillam Road, which they did today. The scar in the tarmac once they have finished is ultra-thin - no more than a couple of inches wide - as can be seen in the foreground bit of pavement.

Northbourne: a dawn view
A view across the Gillam Road/Leybourne Avenue junction at 6:05am just as it is getting light. The street lights in the foreground turned themselves off as I was turning my camera on, followed by other little orange dots disappearing - there are a few still on in the distance towards the left-hand side of the picture. As you can perhaps guess from this picture, it would be a dull and overcast morning ahead of us.

Northbourne: a wet and sunny evening
Heavy rain has persisted for a couple of hours, but as we look out from my balcony the sun has made a brief appearance. It is still raining quite hard, though.

Northbourne: a very misty morning
Looking out across the junction of Gillam Road onto Leybourne Avenue on a very misty morning - you would normally see the fields of the Stour valley for some distance beyond the bungalows to the right.
