The Brown Cow, Bingley
Centuries of history. In relatively recent times, its character has swung from being a centre for local greyhound meets to a must place to hang out for 16 year olds, with many jazz and rock variations in between. One thing that has always been for certain are the excellent Timothy Taylors beers. Indeed a good establishment to taste their range and at least until recently, it could also boast a couple of beers from local micro breweries too.

River Aire, Ireland Bridge at Bingley
Bingley was founded at a ford on the River Aire, probably in Saxon times. This crossing gave access to Harden, Cullingworth and Wilsden on the south side of the river. The ford was superseded by Ireland Bridge In mediæval times. The present bridge is grade II*-listed as “a large elegant well-preserved bridge in virtually unaltered condition” (ENGLISH HERITAGE BUILDING ID: 337905 http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-337905-ireland-bridge-#.VTSx32d0x_s British Listed Buildings). It was rebuilt in 1686 and the parapet may be eighteenth century.

Downstream side of Ireland Bridge, Bingley
There is a weir across the river upstream of the bridge, and the fish ladder in the foreground is at the end of that. The bridge itself is grade 2* listed (list entry 1133377) as being "virtually unaltered" since it was re-built in 1686, other than the 18th century parapet.
