Summerley Works, Idle Moor
Boiler works of Israel Newton & Sons Ltd. An old established company that now does mainly small locomotive and road steam boilers for the preservation scene. Inside was an amazing time capsule doing work of a high standard. The company has now been acquired by two brothers and now works out of premises in Chapel en le Frith. I understand the site was to be sold for redevelopment.

Summerley Works - hydraulic riveting machine
The Israel Newton boiler works has now closed and the title has been sold to two brothers operating in Derbyshire. This is a water hydraulic riveter used for hot riveting boilers. The operating lever and valve block are below centre left and the operating cylinder is on the left and wears a sort of rain-coat. The workpiece is suspended in the gap and the riveter squeezes the red hot rivet closed and forms the head. I had only ever seen these in illustrations before but was sorry that I couldn't be on the weekday visit when my colleagues saw this actually squeezing red hot rivets.

Summerley Works, Idle Moor
A view inside the boiler shop of Israel Newton & Sons. The business is now relocated to Chapel en le Frith. The vertical boiler lying down on the left is now back in steam at the Black Country Living Museum, Dudley. In the centre is an inverted inner firebox for a locomotive type boiler (as used on traction engines and locomotives). The works had its own hydraulic power system and its work is well respected. The company is one of a few still doing work on traditional boilers.

Summerley Works - Hydraulic pump
The boiler works of Israel Newton has now closed and the name has been bought by two brother operating in Derbyshire. This motor driven three throw pump pressurised the hydraulic circuit and weight loaded accumulator that operated the site's hydraulic riveting machine - Image It was built by Bradley & Turton Ltd of Kiddermisnster and as far as I can recall is the only product of this company's that I've ever seen. It was inside a little wooden cabin in the works. It has now been acquired by a private collector in the Midlands.
