The Israel Newton boiler works has now closed and the title has been sold to two brothers operating in Derbyshire. This is a water hydraulic riveter used for hot riveting boilers. The operating lever and valve block are below centre left and the operating cylinder is on the left and wears a sort of rain-coat. The workpiece is suspended in the gap and the riveter squeezes the red hot rivet closed and forms the head. I had only ever seen these in illustrations before but was sorry that I couldn't be on the weekday visit when my colleagues saw this actually squeezing red hot rivets.
