At least the footpath part of the bridge is sandstone paving stones and not cobbles.

Lancashire: Waterside Bridge, Colne
This old bridge was the original crossing of Colne Water, and a great deal of building of small houses and mills took place around it. The area was mostly cleared in the 1930s.

Waterside Bridge, Colne, Lancashire
The ancient Lancashire town of Colne is built on high ground between two valleys, which run roughly east to west, about a mile apart. The southerly valley is that of Colne Water, which is seen here passing under Waterside Bridge. Spring Gardens Mill is seen in the distance.
A site visitor adds:
I believe Spring Gardens Mill was on the left of the picture (beyond where the white cones are) and the Mill in the distance is Haslems Mill. We used to climb up the inside of the tower of Haslems and play on the roof in our early teens. My Grandparents used to live on Spring Garden St.

Wood Street, Colne - 1984
This steep terrace was earlier surrounded by many other houses, but these had all gone by 1984. Looking at Google Earth, the terrace still seems to be there in 2009.

Curzon Street, Colne, Lancashire
At the bottom of the hill and running parallel to the South Valley is Curzon street, numbers 5 to 33 (no numbers 1 or 3 ever existed). They enjoy an enviable view over the valley.

Colne South Valley
In the centre is the Admiral Lord Rodney. I planned my walk around this pub, knowing it was supposed to be a good supplier of local ales, only to find that it was shut.
