Terrace houses and moorland, Colne, Lancashire
The shop in the foreground is just across the far side of Colne Water, on the corner of Knotts Lane. The terraces catching the early morning sun are in Hawley Street and Khyber Street, while some expensive detached properties have recently been built behind, on the edge of the moor. Colne is a very ancient town, but now in the 21st century, it's a lively place with strong support for the arts, very little 'yobbish' behaviour, and with open countryside never far away.

Colne: Knotts Lane
Seen from the western end where it meets the A56. From here, Knotts Lane runs parallel to Colne Water, (which is on the left) until it meets Bridge Street coming downhill from Albert Road. At this point, Knotts Lane makes a sharp right turn, uphill and into the country.

View from the top of Shaw Street, Colne, Lancashire
Almost everything visible in the photograph is contained within the relevant gridsquare. The terrace houses rising steeply in the morning sunlight are in Knotts Lane, which leads over to some very attractive moorland countryside, while the houses broadside on to the left are in Green Road, and further behind, Nicholas Street.
