A short note
The Sir Isaac Pitman pub in Market Street, named after the famous shorthand inventor. He was born in Trowbridge in January, 1813, and spend a lifetime involved with the English language - principally trying to reform it. The shorthand for which he is best remembered first came about in 1837 which lead to his knighting in 1897.
