A prime brownfield site
Backing on to the Royal Crescent, this was a petrol station until around the turn of the millennium, but has now been awaiting a new use for a decade. There was some recent activity here - which will with any luck eventually produce something in a style more in keeping with its surroundings - but for some months the only sign of renovation has been a sign advertising the renovation company.

St. Andrew's Church, Julian Rd.
St Andrew's is a replacement for a church of the same name which once stood on the other side of Julian Road but was bombed in the Second World War. The green road surface shows this is a 'shared space' between road users and pedestrians, one of a handful of such schemes in Britain. A hot-air balloon is just about to go up.

38-45 St James's Square, Bath
The south side of this rectangular square which has roads entering diagonally at each corner. Pevsner observes that it is "the most complete Georgian square in Bath", which is surprising until one remembers that Bath's most notable set pieces are crescents or terraces (or the Circus). Bowed ends, a pilastered and pedimented centrepiece, and accompanying arched windows. By John Palmer, 1790-93. Grade I listed.

King Bladud's Pigs workshop
This building on Julian Road was used as a holding area and workshop for the public art project 'King Bladud's Pigs' in 2008. The 'People's Pig' with signatures of the public is on the left at the front; others including 'Pig in Prada' and Image are visible further back, in front of a herd of as yet unpainted animals.

Cut benchmark, Marlborough Buildings
The street sign forms a handy bike post, especially for the environmentally aware drinker. It's right on the corner of the Marlborough Tavern.

View to the back of Marlborough Buildings
As seen from an open top bus on Weston Road. Built in the late 18th century, the houses were originally about three storeys high but were built up in the 19th century to as much as seven storeys (further information at Images of England http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=443082&mode=adv and Bath In Time http://www.bathintime.co.uk/collection.php?nameTree=marlborough_buildings ). There are allotment gardens in the foreground.
