Large house at Upton Lovell
I'm unable to discover any information on this property, which is but a stone's throw away from the church. I thought it might be the Old Rectory, but I now have my doubts. If anyone can enlighten me, I'd be most grateful.

It was not until the fourteenth century that the suffix "Lovell" was added when John, 5th Lord Lovell of Titchmarsh became Lord of the Manor, the settlement then became Upton Lovell.

The area in which this church stands is the side of an established Saxon settlement believed to have been called "Ubbantone". The Domesday book has it as "Ubetone" which cathedral records have it variously as "Overton", "Obeton" and "Ubbedon".
