Old Milestone, Old Wells Road, South East of Leigh upon Mendip
The milestone is located on the grass verge opposite the junction with Leigh Road, on the south side of the road. Parish of Leigh upon Mendip (Mendip District). Metal plate attached to stone post, Frome square iron plate design, erected by the Frome turnpike trust in the 18th century.
The plate is now missing- see Image and Image
Inscription reads:-

A milestone in need of a trim
Lying beside the Old Wells Road is a milestone. It is missing almost all details, including the plate, and the stone itself has crumbled somewhat - all now covered by some lush vegetation. Formerly it would have read 'Wells 10, Frome 5'. It also should have a benchmark, although it may have been subject to the above constraints.
