Former Washwood Heath Bus Garage (2)
Taken on a sunny day in August 2000, this photo shows the former bus garage on the B4114 Washwood Heath Road which originally opened as a tramcar depot by Birmingham Corporation Tramways on the 1st January 1907. It also operated trolleybuses for route 7 (Birmingham Old Square to Nechells) between 27th October 1922 and 30th September 1940. Tramcar operation finished on the 1st October 1950 and Birmingham City Transport provided motorbuses on routes to the East of Birmingham until it became part of the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive on the 1st October 1969. Latterly, Travel West Midlands operated this bus garage until it closed in August 1998. It was subsequently demolished and a shopping development with car park now occupies this site.
