Midland Bank Saltley. Sorting code 40-11-22
I worked for Midland Bank HSBC for 32 years and spent all but the last two in Birmingham Branches. I am photographing all the branches, or what's left of them, as they were when I joined Midland Bank in 1963. The branches all start with the sorting code 40-11.
This is the site of where the 13 High Street Saltley Branch stood. The sorting code was 40-11-22.

Saltley Viaduct crosses the Grand Union Canal
Saltley viaduct is a road bridge that crosses the River Rea, railway lines and the canal, connecting Saltley with central Birmingham. Viewed from the canal it is clearly a very solid piece of blue-brick Victorian engineering. According to Bill Dargue's Birmingham history site it was built in 1895 https://billdargue.jimdofree.com/placenames-gazetteer-a-to-y/places-s/saltley/ .
The construction of HS2 is now transforming the area and it appears that the viaduct will be demolished and replaced by a higher, steel structure, to allow the high speed railway to pass underneath, as explained on the HS2 site https://www.hs2.org.uk/building-hs2/viaducts-and-bridges/saltley-viaduct/#:~:text=Viaduct%20design&text=Extra%20space%20is%20needed%20underneath,network%20at%20the%20same%20locations .
