Wishful thinking
During the 2010 World Cup football finals, quite a lot of people got a bit carried away despite England's team being not very good. Pubs all over the place were smothered with England flags. In Bromsgrove, the firm of Dixons, estate agents, even had these for sale boards made with the flag and the slogan "Come on England It's coming home". A few days after this photograph was taken England were badly beaten by Germany, and that, as they say, was the end of that. Quite who was the most embarrassed, Dixons, or the owner of this house in Worcester Road, is unknown.

George V postbox, corner of Worcester Road and Sanders Road
King George V reigned from 1910 to 1936, so this postbox was probably placed here during that period. The cipher used on postboxes in his reign was very plain, and without a roman numeral, unlike those of Edward VII and George VI. At the bottom (black area) of this box, the manufacturer's name etc is given: McCowall, Steven & Co., London & Falkirk.
Postbox number: B61 563. Post code: B61 7**. Last collection: 5.30pm Monday to Friday, and 12 noon Saturday.

The Turks Head (1), 147 Worcester Road
The building is probably early 19th century. The pub has accommodation available, and the building also includes the Pappadom Lounge, which is an Indian restaurant. That is the spelling on the signage, but it seems to be a misspelling of poppadom.

The Turks Head (3) - pub sign, 147 Worcester Road
Pubs called the Turks Head or the Saracens Head are not uncommon, and seem to be a reference to the Crusades of the early medieval period. This pub is nowhere near as old as the times of the Crusades, so it's not clear why it got its name, unless perhaps there was an earlier pub of that name on or near the present site.
