This view shows Boulton Road where it joins the Soho Road (A41). This is part of the mighty no. 11 Outer Circle bus route which encircles the City of Birmingham. Soho Road Handsworth showing old Midland/HSBC Bank site
The Soho Road (A41) passing through the heart of Handsworth heading towards West Bromwich. The building with the "spire" in the centre of the picture was once Midland Bank, 182 Soho Road, Handsworth. The premises are now used by the Bank of India. Inside the lovely solid wooden original Midland Bank cashiers' counter and glass "anti-bandit" screen are still in-situ.

Midland Bank/ HSBC Handsworth, 40-11-12 Now Bank of India.
I worked for Midland Bank HSBC for 32 years and spent all but the last two in Birmingham Branches. I am photographing all the branches, or what's left of them, as they were when I joined Midland Bank in 1963. The branches all start with the sorting code 40-11. This was the Handsworth branch at 182 Soho Road. The site is now occupied by the Bank of India. They saved money when they took over by retaining and using many of the original internal features. The wooden counter and panelling remain intact. The sorting code was 40-11-12.
