Former H.B. Sale factory
The former H.B. Sale factory on the corner of Constitution Hill and Hampton Street is an eyecatching building architecturally. The company that used to occupy this building were 'Die-sinkers'. The building was designed by William Doubleday and James R Shaw in 1895-6 and built in a Gothic style with a touch of Spanish influence. Sadly in need of a little tlc. The building is Grade II listed, see: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1210235

Architectural detail - "The Red Palace", Birmingham
Currently below the tower is The Syriana Restaurant but this fine brick building known locally as "The Red Palace" once served a different purpose. The letters "HBS" provide a clue as the building was commissioned in the mid eighteen nineties by H.B.Sale, a successful die-sinker firm. The tower that was integral to the original design was finished in 1896 as a memorial to Lord Roberts of Kandahar (1832–1914), a highly decorated and esteemed military leader who was influential in various campaigns - mainly on the Indian sub-continent.

1-7 Constitution Hill, Birmingham
Very eyecatching in shape, colour and position. All clad in red terracotta including a dome crowning the rounded "corner". It was built in 1895-96 for H.B. Sale (whose name can be made out in the carved panel above the second floor window) to the designs of William Doubleday & James R. Shaw. Grade II listed.
The upper floors looked empty, but a restaurant, Syriana, occupied the ground floor. According to Wikipedia, H.B. Sale is still going (despite being in the dyeing business) and its current premises (2012) are only about 100 metres away.
