Digswell Hill
This house, surrounded by a high fence, looks out onto the old A1 - the Great North Road. Now the B197, it is relatively quiet but all the heavy traffic passes on the A1(M) at the rear.

Brocks Wood railway cutting
The Ayot Greenway is diverted away from the old railway track at this point but there it is still possible to walk along the side of the old railway cutting. It is on the left of this picture.

Once a coaching stop on the Great North Road, most traffic nowadays roars past oblivious on the A1(M) at the rear. The pub is part of the Mitchells & Butlers' Premium Country Dining Inn chain, with the emphasis firmly on food.

Brock's Wood
Marked as Brock's Wood on maps, but actually a part of the larger Sherrardspark Wood, this is one of the largest and most important areas of oak woodland in Hertfordshire. It is criss-crossed by paths and this scene is close to the entrance on Digswell Hill.
