This is The Two Willows public house in Howardsgate, formerly the Cork and before that a bank. The pub owners courted controversy in 2013 when, after its latest refurbishment, it was due to be named after Sir Ebenezer Howard, the founder of Welwyn Garden City, only to be informed that said gentleman abstained from alcohol and took a dim view of those who didn’t...!

Ebenezer Howard monument, Howardsgate, Welwyn Garden City (1)
The 2.2m tall bronze statue, by artist Ben Twiston-Davies and erected in 2021, commemorates the town's founder Ebenezer Howard (1850-1928). Howard was the founder of the Garden City movement and was responsible for establishing the world’s first two garden cities, Letchworth Garden City in 1903 and Welwyn Garden City in 1920.
