The 2.2m tall bronze statue, by artist Ben Twiston-Davies and erected in 2021, commemorates the town's founder Ebenezer Howard (1850-1928). Howard was the founder of the Garden City movement and was responsible for establishing the world’s first two garden cities, Letchworth Garden City in 1903 and Welwyn Garden City in 1920.
