Fuar Deas; Cold South
A local artist, Alison Simpson, created this sculpture as part of the Quincentenary celebrations of the village; she said of the past "activity and prosperity had focused on a place named Cold South"; of the present, ""if one stands on this spot and turns slowly you can see the old church, the present church, the school, the fields, the burn, the bridge, the castle" and of the future " a tree of memories.. of learning and potential...gilded, leafy...change is inevitable".

Fordyce Castle
Fordyce Castle is a small fortalice situated in the centre of the conservation village of Fordyce. The castle was built in 1592 by a local laird and wealthy Aberdeen merchant. There are 18th century extensions.

I had a lovely stroll around Fordyce village on a perfect summer day and didn't see another soul. Roseau, the cottage in the right foreground, is C-listed: LB10636 http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB10636 . Note the cottages with their gable-ends to the street.
