A local artist, Alison Simpson, created this sculpture as part of the Quincentenary celebrations of the village; she said of the past "activity and prosperity had focused on a place named Cold South"; of the present, ""if one stands on this spot and turns slowly you can see the old church, the present church, the school, the fields, the burn, the bridge, the castle" and of the future " a tree of memories.. of learning and potential...gilded, leafy...change is inevitable".
