Goods yard, Maud station
British Rail Class 27 27019 shunts wagons at the goods yard at Maud. By this date the station (closed to passengers in 1965) was no longer a junction, the line to Peterhead having closed in 1970. There was still just enough goods traffic on the line to Fraserburgh to justify some irregular freight trains such as this one. The line finally closed in 1979. The Station Hotel can just be seen in the distance between the wagons.

Waiting for the locomotive
The brake van has been detached, while British Rail Class 27 27019 shunts wagons in the yard at Maud to add to its train to take on to Fraserburgh. By this date the station (closed to passengers in 1965) was no longer a junction, the line to Peterhead having closed in 1970. There was still just enough goods traffic on the line to Fraserburgh to justify some irregular freight trains such as this one. The person in the brake van is a friend. We both bought an official 'brake van' ticket to let us ride from Aberdeen to Fraserburgh and back to experience the line before it closed. In fact we got to ride in the rear cab of the loco for most of the way back! The line closed the following year (1979). In the distance on the right is Maud and Savoch Church.
