To the lighthouse
The bridge from the mainland to Buchan Ness (or Buchanness) island was built in 1962; the 36-m high granite lighthouse itself was built to a design by Robert Stephenson in 1825. The A-listed (LB16367: http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB16367 ) lighthouse is thought to be the first ever to have a revolving light and is now automated; the former keeper's cottage is now holiday accommodation.
