Aberdeenshire coastal countryside
Trees are starting to get sparse some 20 km north east of Aberdeen except in sheltered valleys and there are few hedges. In the middle distance is Mains of Ardiffery and the ominously named Gallows Hill. 'Ardiffery' means 'black hill of the shieling' according to Celtic Placenames in Aberdeenshire by John Milne.

St James' episcopal church, Cruden Bay
Built 1842 on a prominent (but inconvenient) site some 2 km west of the village and extended 1875; the spire is 27.5 m high and as seen here is receiving some attention from a steeplejack. B-listed (LB3060): http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB3060 . Architect William Hay (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Hay_(architect) ), who spent much of his career in Canada.
