Cruden old kirk (St Olaf's)
Inconveniently situated some 2 km west of the modern village, the kirk (viewed here from the south west) was built in 1776 in typical rectangular 'preaching box' style (compare Foveran kirk a few km down the coast: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5581842 ) with a bellcote containing a Dutch bell dated 1519. The kirk was extended to the north in 1833 to incorporate a gallery flanked by over-the-top baronial conical towers and the southern organ chamber built in 1913. B-listed (LB3057): http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB3057 .

Mystery war graves
Graves of four sailors who lost their lives when HM Water Carrier Progress was lost on 21 December 1916. The Progress appears to have sunk and been recovered but official records seem contradictory: https://www.greatwarforum.org/topic/19603-hm-progress/ .
