Looking up the back road to Wakenwae...
...with West Gibseat farmhouse visible to the left. The brown shed at the junction is the village telephone exchange. 'Wakenwae' apparently means 'moss of the birch' according to Celtic Placenames in Aberdeenshire by John Milne.

Auchnagatt Primary School
The school opened in 1957 and recently expanded to accommodate pupils from the former Braeside School, which was located about 4 km to the southwest. School roll (2019-20): 53, taught in three composite classes.
