Earl of Crawford's body hiding place
This monument marks the site where the Earl of Crawford's body was hidden after being removed from the Dunecht House crypt sometime in 1881. Full details can be obtained by searching "Dunecht Mystery" on-line. The top of the monument is inscribed "This cross is erected as a mark of thanksgiving for the recovery of the body of her husband by Margaret Countess of Crawford", and the column is inscribed," Under this spot the body of Alexander Earl of Crawford sacriligiously stolen from the vault under the Dunecht chapel lay hidden during 14 months".
