Union Street is busy, even in this bank holiday evening scene, although the gull does not seem bothered about standing in the bus lane. The bunting was for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Everybody agrees that Union Street, once one of the most famous shopping streets in Scotland is in serious trouble, but nobody knows what to do about it... Here we see the block to the east of Belmont Street featuring from left-to-right a money lender, a newsagent, a pawnbroker, a vacant shop and a discount shop.

Trinity Shopping Centre, Union Street, Aberdeen
The striking B-listed neo-Gothic building from 1844 once housed the Seven Incorporated Trades, Aberdeen's medieval trade guild organization, which by the 19th Century had become a social and charitable organisation. Continental Market in Union Street, Aberdeen.
On one November weekend each year Union Street is closed to traffic between Market Street and Bridge Street to accommodate this market selling continetal produce. At other times of the year the international markets are usually held on at the Castlegate.

Aberdeen University Engineering Association students are conducting a bus pull in aid of Aberdeen Students' Charities Campaign. The bus left from Hazelhead and was pulled over 3 miles via Queens Road to Union Street.

Union Bridge
This was one of the world's first flyovers. It carries Union Street across the valley of the Denburn. Today the Denburn is culverted and the bridge crosses Denburn Road and the Aberdeen-Inverness railway line. The bridge dates from 1805 and was widened in 1905 and 1963.The row of shops on the south side of the bridge was also added in 1963.
